Bubbalux Autumn Leaves
Have fun experimenting and shaping Bubbalux craft board to make these curled leaves and twisted spirals for an Autumn wreath. Bubbalux is easy to cut, emboss and colour. It’s also very durable and waterproof, making it an ideal material for garden decorations and outdoor features.
You Will Need:
- Leaf template [DOWNLOAD HERE!]
- Black Bubbalux
- Craft knife
- Hand embossing tool
- Heat gun
- Gilding wax or metallic paint
- Small pieces of sponge
- Readymade wreath or garland
- Fine sandpaper
- Strong sticky foam pads or glue
Cut out 2 leaf shapes from card in different sizes (65mm and 55mm wide). Cut a sheet of Bubblaux in half then peel off the protective backing film.
Place the card leaves onto the Bubbalux. Using a ball-ended embossing tool, draw around the edges. Depending on the size of your wreath, you’ll need to make 7 - 10 leaves.
Cut out the Bubbalux leaves with scissors. Use a craft knife to cut into the corners to make neat shapes.
Emboss lines onto one side of the Bubbalux leaves with the ball tool. Press down firmly to make a clear pattern.
Turn the leaf over so the embossed pattern is facing down. Use a heat gun to soften the Bubbalux. Hold the heat gun 5cm from the surface and keep it moving in small circles for about 20 seconds
Turn off the heat gun and then quickly curl the edges of the leaf while the Bubbalux is still soft. There should still be an embossed pattern on the reverse side of the leaf where no direct heat has been applied.
Cut some 3mm wide Bubbalux strips. Heat the strips until they are soft and then curl around the embossing tool or a pencil to make spirals.
Smooth down any uneven edges on the leaves with sandpaper. Highlight the pattern on the leaf with gilding wax or metallic acrylic paint, or try using both together. Colour the spirals in the same way.
Fix the finished leaves onto a wreath using strong sticky pads or a waterproof all-purpose glue for an outdoor decoration. Push the spirals into the wreath with a blob of glue on the end.
Tips: Hang the wreath on a nail or wall hook, or hang it with ribbon.
