Download the files available with this tutorial. Working in Brother Canvas on your PC load the first file “Faux Stitching Aperture Card Outer”. You can transfer this file directly to your ScanNCut either via USB of WiFi – the files create a 130x130mm card, or course if you would like a different size you can easily adjust.
Place your chosen papers on to your mat, load your mat in to the machine, and cut the file. For my card I have used Kraft card as the card blank, and paper from the Wildflower Meadow collection by Craft Consortium.
Next, cut the second file “Faux Stitching Aperture Card Inside”. This file creates the inner layer of the aperture along with the inside of the card. Again you can adjust the sizes as desired.
Choose your focal stamp for the front of your card and stamp the image using Versafine ink, sprinkle clear embossing powder over the image, tap away the excess and use your heat tool to set. Keeping with the theme of the card I have used the hare stamp from Craft Consortiums’ Wildflower Meadow collection.
For the best results when stamping, I chose to use a Load N Fold, this ensures a crisp ink delivery and allows me to line up my work.
Colour your focal image using watercolour pencils, build layers of colour intensity and using a fine brush, blend the colours using a little water. Once you are happy with the image, either scan it in to you ScanNCut to cut or you can fussy cut the image by hand.
Next stamp your sentiment to the centre of your aperture using the same ink and embossing process as in step 3.
Finally build your card layers. For the mat and layers to the front of the card, fix in place using double sided tape. For the layers of vellum and watercolour card stock to the inside of the aperture, add foam tape to give depth.
Mount your focal stamp image on foam pads and embellish the card with coordinating sequins.
Fancy making this design even more your own? Why not change the cut stitch lines throughout the design files to a drawn line and choose your own colour stitching!
